The mobile library is a public library which operates on a specially designed bus called a mobile library van. It visits those rural and urban areas where there are no stationary libraries and where public libraries are a considerable distance away. Our regular stops include certain areas in the City Municipality of Ljubljana and some areas in nine municipalities of the central region of Slovenia: the Municipality of Dobrova and Polhov Gradec, the Municipality of Dol, the Municipality of Brezovica, the Municipality of Horjul, the Municipality of Ig, the Municipality of Medvode, the Municipality of Velike Lašče, the Municipality of Škofljica and the Municipality of Vodice. A feature that characterizes our library is that we visit male and female prison in Ig on a regular basis, some homes and centres for the elderly, day nurseries and the Soča Rehabilitation Centre.

Membership of the Mobile Library is free of charge because the Mobile Library does not provide all of the services of LCL's stationary branches. If a Mobile Library member chooses to use the services of any other of the LCL's libraries, the annual membership is charged according to the current price-list.

The mobile library van offers:

  • automated borrowing
  • the possibility of film projection onto a screen
  • a lift for the disabled
  • a children's corner
  • 6.500 units of library material and
  • 600 units of non-book material (music, films).
