The Glinškova ploščad library has been exhibiting works of Slovenian illustrators since 1993, and is one of the few Slovenian libraries that systematically present this field of art. The decision to exhibit illustrations has been reached due to some distance of the library's location from Ljubljana's city centre – in the locality where similar types of exhibitions had previously been absent: in books the illustrations pour into one with the text, whereas on exhibition they assume an independent artistic value.
Annually two exhibitions of illustrations are held – one in the spring and one in the autumn – mostly of artists who have already established themselves in this art field. Alongside with these exhibitions, book materials, where original illustrations were published, are presented. Exhibitions openings are events in themselves: the illustrator is presented by a professional from the fields of art criticism and of art history, and the events are spiced up by musicians, reciters or other artists from the surrounding schools.
Besides these exhibitions the library is equipped with everything required by its users. Materials and bright comfortable reading spaces are available to adults, and a large department is dedicated to children, where they can play, read or listen to the fairy-tale hour in the fairy-tale room.
