Amateur Rakitna Public library is located in the renovated library space on the ground floor of the local-community building in the centre of a place with 240 inhabitants. There are 2,400 books at your disposal in the library. In Rakitna, there is an active cultural club with many singing, theatre and puppet groups which run rich cultural programmes all year round. Club members often organize story time or creative workshops for children in the library place. Amateur librarian Tadej Kovačič runs the library.
Rakitna had not had its own library for a very long time, so a Ljubljana mobile library had taken on that role. Because the local residents wanted to have their own library, they joined up with the central Prežihov Voranc Library, which supported their efforts. They carried out professional processing of the purchased library material and in 1985 the library was open to the public as an amateur library, sharing the work area with the local school. In 2002, the library moved to the local community home, gaining bigger and better library area.
For the sake of diversification, the library holds a fairly small collection of video cassettes, DVDs and CDs. It has neither newspapers nor magazines.
