Special services

The Library met the needs of the local community and responded to professional challenges by establishing autonomous specialized services for target user-groups:

  • The Employment Information Service gathers, actualises and provides information on labour markets in Slovenia, the European Union and other countries.
  • The basement of Oton Župančič Library is designed for listening to music, watching movies, visiting events and spending spare time. There are the media collection with materials on music, film, theatre, and dancing and comic-book collection with a rich selection of comic-books. 

The following services back up the lifelong learning:

  • The Learning Exchange is the information centre which collects, manages and mediates the information about people who look for knowledge and those who offer it.
  • The Centre for Autonomous Learning is one of the forms designed to meet the needs of the adult education. The autonomous learning is intended for the people without their own computers, or those who because of the lack of time, money shortage or very distant educational institutions can not take part in any of the organized forms of education.
  • Points of lifelong learning are meant for all adults who want to learn autonomously, free of charge and who decide to renew or upgrade their knowledge on different fields. Main focus groups of users are young adults, unemployed, and seniors.

The Centre for Youth Literature and Librarianship provides material and information from the expert fields of youth literature and librarianship. With its help, the Library has continuously followed new professional trends in the world and developed, and tested in practice, new forms of book-related, literary and library-related education for children and spread them over Slovenia.

Intended for the reading-room purposes of the Centre for Youth Literature and Librarianship are: the archive of books for the young in Slovenian (original Slovenian books and translations), the archive of Slovenian youth periodicals, archival collection of Slovenian books for the young translated into foreign languages and colxlection of the best foreign-language picture books.

Other special services:

  • Home Library Service is intended for those users who cannot visit the Library themselves, due to old age, illness or physical handicap. 
  • Inter-Library Loan provide loans from other libraries of the material which is not available in our Library, either because it is not in the Library’s holdings or because it is currently borrowed by another user.
